Roku Originals Acquires The Spiderwick Chronicles Following Disney+ Departure
Spiderwick Chronicles fans rejoice! The Grace family has found a new home at Roku Originals.
That’s right, Roku Originals are picking up exclusive rights to the series following the Disney+ announcement that the show was being cancelled due to cost cutting back in August. The eight episode series stars Christian Slater and Joy Bryant and will follow the Grace family as they move from New York to their families ancient home in Michigan. Once they arrive at their great grandfather’s Spiderwick estate, they find themselves uncovering mysteries with a connection to a world full of mystical fantasies.
“We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers,” said Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals, Roku Media. Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television Studios and Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, added: “We are elated that The Spiderwick Chronicles has found a new home and want to thank The Roku Channel for their passionate partnership. Our showrunner Aron Eli Coleite has crafted a beautiful series full of all the enchantment that made the books so beloved and we can’t wait for audiences to meet these wonderful characters.”
The new TV series The Spiderwick Chronicles is based on the book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, which generated over 20 million copies sold. Alongside Slater and Bryant, series stars Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace, Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace, and Jack Dylan Grazer as the voice of Thimbletack.
The Spiderwick Chronicles is set to premiere in early 2024 on The Roku Channel.
