Walton Goggins Teases New Fallout TV Series: “It’s A Visual Buffet That I’m Still Marveling At”
Walton Goggins has a lengthy Hollywood resume, including The Righteous Gemstones, The Shield, and now, the highly anticipated Fallout series. Fallout is based on the very popular video game of the same name and is set in a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles that was brought about by nuclear decimation. Citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits. Pop Culture Planet’s Danielle Forte spoke to Goggins about his role as “The Ghoul” in the series while at the SXSW premiere of his new film The Uninvited.
“Fallout is predicated on one of the most important games in the history of gaming,” Goggins told me, and he’s not wrong. The most recent installment of the gaming franchise now has more than 17 million players, with sales reaching 46.4 million copies across the entire series. It’s safe to say that the television series will have some hardcore fans.
With the global success of The Last of Us, it seems as though all eyes are on video game to TV show adaptations as of late. Goggins knew this going in, but actually claimed that he “wasn’t aware of the property” beforehand. Of course, his younger son plays it, but once Goggins was officially offered the role, he made the decision to not play the game after all. “I think it’s important to have someone at the table who isn’t carrying the mantle or responsibility of giving the fans what they want,” Goggins explained, sharing that because he had no prior knowledge of the game, he was able to have a critical eye on the script to ensure it made sense to all viewers and as a well-told story people want to watch.
While the series doesn’t start streaming until April 11 on Prime Video, Goggins hinted that it’s not one to be missed. “I’ve seen four episodes now and it’s an epic undertaking,” he shared. “It’s a visual buffet that I’m still marveling at.”
If The Last of Us was any indication for the desire and shear popularity of post-apocalyptic content, Fallout will be all of our new obsession come April.
