From Gen V to Chucky Season 3, Should You Add These To Your Watchlist?

Supes, AI, and… killer dolls? Pop Culture Planet’s Kristen Maldonado shares the new shows and movies you don’t want to miss.

Chucky Season 3

Move over M3GAN, Chucky is back and headed to the White House!

With Chucky’s unending thirst for power, he has settled in with America’s First family inside the White House. What does he want? And how can Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson), and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind) possibly get to him inside world’s most secure building? Meanwhile, the police are closing in on Tiffany for “Jennifer Tilly’s” murderous rampage last season.

For those worried about our trio being sidelined for the first family, they’re as big a part of the show as ever. While the first episode is a lot of set up, we learn that some of the events that went on in season 2 will have long lasting effects on everyone, especially Chucky. Jennifer Tilly continues to be an icon and Dumballa gets more spotlight, although I wish we got more Fiona Dourif. While they play a little too much into cameos and don’t go as big as I hoped with the kills, Chucky brings even more campy, meta, and over the top humor. I wouldn’t say this is the scariest season yet so far, but I’m excited to see where the season goes in part 2. Just by being at the White House, Chucky could have the potential to take over the whole world!

The country gets Chucked as Part 1 of Chucky season 3 hits SYFY and USA Network on October 4. The show returns with Part 2 in 2024.

Gen V

The new Gen V series is just as wild as The Boys!

Set at Godolkin University, we follow a group of college-age supes who find themselves thrust into competition with each other for top spots while uncovering a sinister secret at the school. The story is centered around Marie (Jaz Sinclair), a blood bender who has been at a disadvantage since her powers revealed themselves. She hopes things will be different at God U and plans to establish herself as a hero. She even reunites with her Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-star Chance Perdomo in the dark new series.

The university offers only two paths: crimefighting or performing arts. It’s a fitting commentary as the supes are used to save people or entertain people, there’s no inbetween. Used being the key term. When the Golden Boy of the school snaps, they learn that there is a secret plot known as the woods doing experiments on supes. But who, how, and why are still to be uncovered by these super students.

Another frightening piece of commentary on this coming-of-age super world is that many of the supes have to turn toward dangerous or unhealthy ways to access their powers, including cutting and purging. Is the power really worth the pain? Gen V definitely follows the lead of The Boys with all the gore, guts, blood, and sex running rampant at the school.

Gen V is streaming weekly on Prime Video.

The Creator

As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, an ex-special forces agent is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind… but they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.

The Creator is an ambitious sci-fi odyssey with a profound take on humanity, acceptance, and freedom at its core. John David Washington delivers a career best performance, while Madeleine Yuna Voyles proves she’s a young actor to watch. The third act surprised me, this film WENT THERE!

Catch The Creator playing in theaters.
