The Way Home Season 3 Delivers Emotional Reveals, Plus New Mysteries To Uncover In Season 4!

tv

The Way Home delivers reunions, romance, and plenty more time travel in its third season. As Del (Andie MacDowell) finally reconnects with Jacob (Spencer Macpherson), who had been lost in the 1800s, fans were transported back to 1974 where a young Del (Julia Tomasone) and Colton (Jordan Doww) first fell in love. But it's not all peace signs and flower chains as mysteries from the past creep in, leaving us questioning: How much did Colton (Jefferson Brown) really know about time travel? Who is this mysterious baby? And are there more time travelers among us?

I love that each season of The Way Home explores the ripples of history for the Landry family and Port Haven as a whole. We see how their actions affect each other, but also how patterns repeat. This theme is especially prominent now that we’re further along in the story and have gotten to see from the perspective of several decades. From Colton and Alice’s shared love of music to the love triangles across every decade to the Goodwin rivalry, history repeats itself — for better or for worse. Each actor across time is completely believable in their role, making it almost eerie how well the casting team captures the essence of younger versions of our beloved characters.

Once a character or time period is introduced, they could pop up again at any point. It also means anything can and will happen. This attention to detail serves us well when it comes to the time travel mystery. There are so many Easter eggs, references, and little elements the writing team includes in the show that are addicting to decipher the true meaning of. There are times when we see the story unfold, only to backtrack to see it in a new light or from another characters perspective. It makes it all the more thrilling to discover that adult Elliot (Evan Williams) helped Colton build the hangout spot in season 2 or that Alice (Sadie LaFlamme-Snow) was pushed into the pond by none other than… Alice herself.

While season 2 got slow in the middle and didn’t give characters like Del or Elliot much to do, season 3 has been non-stop action for everyone. It makes every episode a can’t miss watch, but, with so many people jumping between timelines, it can also be jarring. This season gets a little confusing as you start to get time travel whiplash. There’s a lot to juggle with a show like this, but they manage to keep you invested and shocked each episode.

It also has us working to uncover the truth about so many mysteries that are being laid out in front of us. Colton has been put on a pedestal since the beginning of the series. This led to Del’s idea of him and their romance starting to get tarnished once she learned that he didn’t tell her about the pond. Luckily this season confirms that their love story was just as beautiful as they remembered, but also that he isn’t this all knowing golden man. When he and Alice finally have a touching moment solidifying their bond as grandfather and granddaughter, we learn that Colton didn’t know as much about the pond as everyone thought. But you know who might? KC Goodwin.

That’s right, KC (Vaughan Murrae) is confirmed to be a time traveler that we’ll hopefully learn more about in the upcoming fourth season. Another mystery we’ll explore further is Elliot’s history now that we know he is the mystery baby. And, with hints all season long about the 1920s, I predict that could be the new time period we’ll jump into in season 4.

But beyond the time travel and mystery, the show is filled with heart. Each season dives deeper into the Landry family, showing how these women get closer, learn to communicate better, and uncover secrets that lead them to generational healing. The series holds a mirror up to viewers, allowing them to reflect on their own family dynamics and experiences.

The Way Home remains an underrated gem as it delivers a masterful combination of time travel adventure and poignant family drama. With its emotional depth, complex characters, and unpredictable twists that keep viewers on the edge of their seats, Hallmark Channel has succeeded in making this show appointment television.

All three seasons of The Way Home are available on Hallmark+.
